Girl Parties were the best things I did with my daughters and for my daughters!
How they Started:
It's amazing how God orchestrated and began the Girl Parties. They started with a hurricane and a phone call. Yes, a real scary hurricane was heading right for us. The call came asking help for a family to unload their U-Haul truck before the hurricane winds and rain started. Our family went to help. Fast forward to after the last box had been carried in. The new family had a daughter that matched up right between the ages of my two daughters....it's August...school hasn't started yet...the new family is from out of state, so they don't know anyone, and the mom asked, "How about you pick some great girls, and plan something for them to do that will be fun? Then my daughter can meet some potential new friends." "Sure," I responded. I planned a get together. Eight girls came. They had a great time. I planned another get together. And another...and another.....and another.....That was the start of Girl Parties.
That first year we did a Fashion theme. Everyone had a great time. The last party came, and the girls wanted to continue. I couldn't think of anything else to do. The girls begged to do the same parties all over again. "We'll repeat every one, they were that much fun!" So we did. The end of the 2nd year came. The girls and their moms wanted to continue. God gave the ideas. And He continued to give the ideas. Thank you, Lord. This is all because of You!
Now, a few pointers for you - the wonderful person reading this.
Pray! Pray! And pray some more! Commit your parties to the Lord. Ask Him to guide you in every detail.
All the parties are written to be done in a three hour time frame.
I started the parties with eight girls and did one party a month. My purpose was to have a closed group that would consistently attend thereby developing close friendships. However, these parties can also be used by Sunday School teachers for class fellowships, by Middle School and High School youth group leaders, and at girl conferences. Pray how to use them and if you want a closed group, pray over who you should invite and how many. An even number always works best for games.
When I sent out my invitations, listing all the parties planned for the year, and the dates, I asked for a firm commitment of attendance - for EVERY event. To build good friendships, girls need to be at every party.
I charged for each party. Not to make money, but to cover the costs.
There are 4 books, 12 lessons in each book, one for each month. This is for flexibility. Maybe you don't like some of them or they don't fit the personality of your girls. Don't do them. Maybe you want to spread the parties out over two years and do a party every other month. Maybe you want to pick your top nine, and only do them during the school year. These parties are a guideline. Change what you want, use what you love.
E-Mail pictures of your parties and I'll post them on this web site, ([email protected]). To make planning easy, visit the store tab where you can purchase hard to find items for the parties or kits to make them easier. However, nothing has to be purchased here to do the parties, you can find all the supplies yourself. If you see a little "store" icon, that means there is something available in the store for purchase.
Girls will have fun doing these parties, but ultimately, your highest goal and mine should be for the girls to get to know Jesus better and live for Him more. Therefore the devotions are so important. Please do not skip them and please do not simply read them aloud to the girls. No! Please read the devotion to yourself prior to the party, study the subject matter; add, subtract and change it to fit your girls. Make notes from which to speak, practice it, and then share the devotion with your girls. It will be more effective this way.
Now from my heart to yours: May these parties richly bless the lives of your wonderful girls. May they develop great Christian friendships with each other, and may they grow closer to our wonderful Savior and Lord!
Marcia
